Oh Catalyst, Where Art Thou - Vol. I
Project Catalyst, a remarkable open system driven by collaboration and innovation, finds itself besieged by a peculiar assailant. Yet, this adversary does not emerge from within its ranks, nor does it originate from a discernible group or individuals. Instead, it takes the form of insidious parasitic entities lurking within the inter-subjective space.
Wait, hold on a moment. Let's take a step back and recalibrate our understanding. What lies before you is but a snippet, a tantalizing glimpse into an expansive and immersive IV volume series. And though we embark on this journey together, let us start our expedition with caution and deliberate strides through the shortest volume.
For the sake of collective exploration and to ensure that no single voice dominates, I scribe these reflections under a pseudonym. They represent the amalgamation of thoughts from numerous Project Catalyst participants, making it crucial to preserve the unity of purpose rather than attributing it to any one individual. Our primary focus remains on effecting profound and meaningful change, transcending the futile pursuit of assigning blame.
We uncover the layers of an unfolding story, weaving together the narratives of passionate contributors, ardent believers in the potential of Project Catalyst. As we navigate this complex terrain, let us unite our efforts to safeguard the integrity of this open system, fortifying its defenses against the encroaching threats from the infested inter-subjective space.
Together, we shall embark on a transformative journey, fostering resilience, and igniting the sparks of change. By embracing this collective narrative, we harness the power to redefine the future, leaving behind the confines of attribution and embracing the boundless realm of possibility.
For the Culture
Prepare yourself for a revelation: within the depths of the Catalyst community, a disconcerting phenomenon lingers—an insidious dance between gaslighting and the pervasive grasp of cancel culture.
In the forthcoming second volume, evidence will be presented to substantiate these audacious claims. However, rest assured that no names shall be uttered, for the purpose of this discourse transcends the notion of finger-pointing or igniting witch hunts. Instead, our intent lies in embarking on a transformative journey, right here and now, to restore and mend the inter-subjective spaces that intersect with the expansive realm of "Open Systems" like Catalyst. It is through this collective endeavor that we strive to forge a more enduring and sustainable world, one that resonates deeply with the aspirations of future generations.
What corrodes the very fabric of this vibrant community is not the machinations of an individual or the actions of specific groups; it transcends such narrow perceptions. It manifests itself in a much more subtle and nuanced manner—a force that demands our attention, a force that must be reckoned with.
First things first, what’s an “Open System”?
Open system are polycentric systems with multiple Self organising agents entering and exiting at any time.
Polycentric systems are defined as having "[...] multiple centres of autonomous decision-making" and are structured into four layers:
Polycentric systems (Ostrom, V., 1972; Ostrom, E., 2010) are defined as those with multiple centres of autonomous decision-making.
[…] Furthermore, it is possible to identify at least four layers in relation to the management and problem-solving of the whole system, with interaction between autonomous components occur at every layer; behaviours and decisions taken at one layer can also have an impact on adjacent layers:
1st: Delegated Layer
humans out of the loop: Operation is controlled by 'smart' automation, which works without (or with limited) user awareness;2nd: Programmable Layer
humans on the loop: Operational requirements (are specified by users, and automation resolves the constraints;3rd: Interactive Layer
humans in the loop: Automation indicates active intervention is required by humans;4th: Attentive Layer
humans are the loop: A human participant may occupy multiple different stakeholder roles besides producer and consumer in a community energy system.
- p .8-9 Self Organising Multi Agent Systems by Jeremy Pitt
In order to draw the analogy to the Cardano (and Catalyst) community please ponder on the following perspective:
1st (delegated layer) = in Cardano the settlement layer
2nd (programmable layer) = in Cardano computational layer
3rd (interactive layer) = in Cardano “dapp layer”, that to some extent includes Catalyst (voting dapp)
4th (attentive layer) = in Cardano the community layer, that also includes the Catalyst “innovation fund” network
Now let's look at the definition of "Open Systems":
Open systems, as defined in Hewitt (1986), comprise autonomous components of heterogenous provenance interacting asynchronously in parallel and peer-to-peer. These "autonomous components are of course, agents. Interaction implies that it is reasonable to assume that there is a common language, and a specification of correct behaviour and interfaces that facilitate interoperation; on the otherhand, autonomy and heterogeneity imply that it is not reasonable to assume that the agents share a common objective, nor to assume that there is a centralised agent-controller that is directing or determining the actions of all other agents; and not to assume either- p.12 Self Organising Multi Agent Systems by Jeremy Pitt that their behaviour will necessarily comply with the specification.

What is the Inter-Subjective Space?
An example of palpable inter subjective space?!
Behold the ethereal realm, also known as the Noosphere—an enchanting domain that materializes when the intricate tapestries of consciousness interweave. Here, the convergence of sentient minds, or the interplay of localized facets of the grand Mind, conjures a space beyond the realm of the tangible. It eludes the grasp of physicality, yet dances before our senses, beckoning us to embark on a journey of visceral connection.
The inter subjective space transcends the boundaries of physicality, evoking a sense of profound interconnectedness. It is a realm where the boundaries of individuality blur, allowing us to tap into the collective wisdom that flows through the intangible currents. In this non-localized expanse, one can attune their perception to the subtleties that resonate within, grasping the ephemeral threads that bind us together.
It is a space that stirs the depths of our being, coaxing us to explore the depths of shared consciousness. While its touch eludes our fingertips, it manifests as an experience that resonates within, guiding us toward a deeper understanding of the interconnected web of existence.
Can entities live there?
One theory postulates that because of the increased complexity and inter-connectivity of the inter subjective space, entities emerged within this ecosystem.
Within the realms of theory, a captivating proposition emerges—one that delves into the intricacies of the inter-subjective space, revealing the emergence of enigmatic entities. Picture, if you will, energetic processes and their intricate complexes, interweaving with the currents of conscious, unconscious, and subconscious intent that flow into this ethereal domain. While these phenomena may seem elusive, it is through the lens of relatability that we conjure the notion of entities—vivid images woven into captivating stories that resonate deeply within the human psyche.
Allow this theory to unfurl its tendrils, and a striking realization takes shape: throughout the annals of human history, we bear witness to countless encounters with these energetic processes, manifested in the guise of gods, demons, angels, and ghosts. Thus, it follows that the inter-subjective space, too, harbors symbiotic entities. These harmonious beings reciprocate the energy invested within the process, bestowing upon the collective group or community a collective reward—a shared prosperity.
In stark contrast, parasitic entities siphon and hoard the energy for themselves, leaving the donor drained and the hive, community, or group depleted.
The ebb and flow of these entities within the inter-subjective space reveals a delicate dance between symbiosis and parasitism. It underscores the importance of fostering an ecosystem where the exchange of energy is nourishing, empowering, and sustains the collective welfare. By understanding these dynamics, we embark on a profound exploration of the interplay between energetic entities and the intricate network of communal existence, inviting us to reevaluate our contributions and embrace a symbiotic harmony that resonates within our interconnected web of being.
Symptoms of Parasitic activity
Within the clutches of parasitic influence, individuals often gravitate toward sociopathic tendencies. It is an unsettling sight, witnessing some seemingly "winning" the game as they accumulate resources far beyond their actual needs, while leaving their fellow community members grappling with unmet necessities.
Amidst our human existence, we tend to overlook a profound truth: we are composed of diverse bacteria and fungi, intricately woven together as a cohesive hive. Our lineage tells tales of perfect coordination and collaboration, passed down through the ages. Yet, in our quest for understanding, we often neglect to embrace the quantum principle of entanglement or the hermetic principle of correspondence—those sacred truths that declare "as above, so below, as below, so above." By failing to recognize and embody these principles, we unwittingly are already victims of inter-subjective parasite activity.
In the mosaic of contemporary cultures, a distorted narrative has emerged—one that equates material possessions with success and well-being. This myopic perspective, fueled by the insatiable hunger for accumulation, blinds us to the intricate interconnectedness that lies at the core of our being. It is a symptom, a stark manifestation of the parasitic forces at play within the inter-subjective space.
As we reflect upon this disconcerting reality, it becomes abundantly clear that a profound shift in consciousness is warranted. We must transcend the shallow pursuit of material gain and embrace a holistic understanding of our inherent nature. By acknowledging our symbiotic relationship with the world around us, we reclaim our rightful place as stewards of harmony and balance. Only then can we break free from the clutches of parasitic influence, break out from the mind cubicles, nurturing a collective well-being that transcends the superficial trappings of possession and embraces the true wealth of interconnectedness.
A similar example of parasitic activity and influence from our biosphere:
Why is this concept valuable you might ask?
Adopting this perspective in the mind's repertoire removes the ability to put blame on specific persons or groups. In unison with Nonviolent Communication, integrating this perspective allows for better coordination, communication, goal formulation, as well as more fair and efficient resource distribution within any given community.
No to snake oil.
n the realm of navigating the treacherous landscape of inter-subjective parasites, one powerful tool shines forth: Nonviolent Communication (NVC). With its transformative essence, NVC serves almost as a beacon of hope, a bastion of protection against the insidious forces that seek to divide and conquer.
When engaging in the practice of NVC, an emphatic connection blossoms between individuals. This connection, once established, becomes an impregnable fortress, impervious to loss or breach. NVC practitioners possess a rare gift—they have the ability to perceive beyond the surface-level manifestations of subversive actions, accusations, judgements, insults, and the tumultuous sea of intense emotions. Through the lens of NVC, they glimpse the individual beneath, recognising that such expressions are invariably tethered to unmet needs. It is through this understanding that the parasitic forces find themselves disarmed, their ill-intentions unable to find purchase.
Yet, in the realm of esoteric remedies, an array of alternative practices unveils itself. Among them, the age-old rituals of binding come to the forefront. These sacred ceremonies bind malicious energies into objects, only to shatter them into oblivion—an art reserved for the skilled hands of experienced experts. For those taking their first steps along this arcane path, a more accessible approach lies in the embrace of protective rituals. These sacred acts fortify the sanctity of meetings and events, shielding them from the prevailing waves of parasitic activity.
Within the interplay of Nonviolent Communication, binding rituals, and protective ceremonies, lies a garden of resilience and fortitude. They form the collective arsenal against the insidious forces that seek to sow discord and disarray. As we delve into these practices, we illuminate the path towards harmony and safeguard our communal spaces, ensuring that the inter-subjective landscape becomes a haven of empathy, understanding, and collective well-being.
A little less esoteric please!
Within the profound framework of Nonviolent Communication, we embark upon a transformative journey—one that unveils the profound truth that lies beneath the surface of all (strong) emotional reactions. Each outburst, each poignant expression, is but a flicker of light illuminating the depths of our intricate human needs, those ethereal desires that shape our very existence.
These needs, like the vibrant hues of a kaleidoscope, manifest in myriad forms, unique to each individual. Yet, when we venture deep into their essence, peeling back the layers of complexity, we uncover a sublime convergence—a convergence that converges upon nine fundamental, elemental pillars of our human experience, as elucidated by the visionary Manfred Max Neef.
In the sacred symphony of our existence, these fundamental human needs resonate with unwavering clarity. They form the foundation upon which our desires, aspirations, and yearnings find their footing. From the longing for autonomy and freedom, to the quest for connection and love, from the primal drive for sustenance and shelter, to the yearning for understanding and transcendence—these needs intertwine and intertwine, shaping the fabric of our collective being.
From a 2018 study on NVC
The evidence in this study indicates that students aged 13 to 14 can be
successfully trained to apply Nonviolent Communication in order to improve
connection to others, with the most important component of NVC being the
proper way to respond to violent communication.
That’s it for volume I. Thank You for your attention!
Volume II will continue with a deep dive into Catalyst Circle meetings and dig out examples of communication that we can give valuable insights into how parasitic activity expresses, as well as how NVC is applied.
Volume III caters to non-functional hazards in open systems.
Volume IV is the final volume and contains a story of a vision of the future of Catalyst.
